Attention all West Chester visitors: the Microtel Inn & Suites on Willowbrook Lane is closed following a June 2 fire call that uncovered numerous code and health violations. In a notice of code violation posted to the door, inspectors found that owners had not completed necessary repairs from a Jan. 21 fire, nor did they adequately respond to a water incident that took place in February.
“Danger. This structure is declared unsafe for human occupancy and use. It is unlawful for any person to use or occupy this building after June 2, 2026,” another sign on the door read.
And then the health department was called in.
Chester County Health Department Uncovers Additional Violations
In addition to code violations, Chester County health inspectors were called out to the building after receiving a complaint that rats were present in the hotel. During the June 2 fire call, one emergency responder reported seeing two rodents under the bed in one of the rooms.
Numerous violations were posted to the front door when I visited on Thursday.
The hotel was closed by the Fire Marshall on June 2. It was inspected by the Chester County Health Department on June 4. Inspectors were unable to access the interior of the building but reviewed the exterior and observed what they believed to be several rodent burrows near the dumpster area.
“Although no active rodent activity was observed at [the] time of inspection, conditions conducive to vector harborage were observed,” the report reads.
Management was told to fill the suspected rodent burrows found around the exterior of the building with rocks and engage a certified pest control operator to service the campus.
The hotel remains closed and is not currently accepting reservations. Although, strangely, they have received several online reviews since the facility was closed on June 2.
