There were 13 West Chester organizations out of compliance with the Chester County Department of Health last month, including several local favorites. And new this month, our first ever 100% club—that is, no violations during the regular annual inspection. These inspections are unannounced, making the feat even more impressive. This month, there were three members: a Marshalton OG, an Amish Market vendor, and a gas station. I would have never guessed.
Out of compliance this month:
Osteria AMA West Chester, 34 Street Rd., out, 7 violations, including prepared foods not labeled with date markings, employee medications left in the food prep area, food items found uncovered on shelves and in refrigerators, and squeeze bottles and the large ice machine in need of cleaning and sanitizing.
West Chester Pizza Cafe, 701 W. Nields St. out, 8 violations, including sliced deli meats, cheeses, and sauces held longer than seven days. These items were discarded onsite. Also, food equipment was stored while wet, the dishwashing racks had visible debris, and the ice machine was not clean to either sight or touch. “Remove/drain ice, then wash, rinse and sanitize machine,” the report reads.
King’s Garden, Westtown Amish Farmers Market, 1165 Wilmington Pike, out, 10 violations, including a child under eight observed in the food prep area, vegetable juices and an “Immunity” drink not labeled properly, employees found switching tasks without washing their hands, and the inside of the ice machine needed a thorough cleaning.
