It’s Friday, December 15, just ten shopping days left until Christmas. Here’s what people are talking about this week:
The conviction. The near maximum sentence of 20 to 40 years in prison was handed down to David Desper. Desper is the 28 year-old Delaware County man behind the road rage shooting and killing of 18-year old Rustin graduate Bianca Roberson during the summer of 2017. Desper avoided the maximum sentence because his admittance of guilt allowed the family to avoid a lengthy trial, but despite his remorse, his actions cannot be undone. “All my dreams for Bianca were coming true. Until the day that the defendant murdered my daughter,” WHYY reported Rodney Roberson told the judge.
The death of a West Chester professor. After missing for almost a month, the body of West Chester University statistics professor Tom Short, was found in a Northeast Ohio park. The cause of death remains unknown. Counseling resource are available to students and staff.
The mess downtown. Demo has begun on the Mosteller building and this is one inconvenience people might actually being looking forward to – “I so excited to get that building down,” Developer Eli Kahn told the Daily Local. Building should be completed by end of 2019.
What is the Helicopter Museum? The American Helicopter Museum will be a featured category on an upcoming episode of Jeopardy, the Daily Local reports. Play along, with staff and guests at the museum’s viewing party, December 18. Check your local listings for times – kidding, check with the museum.
Bam’s party. Were you there? Because apparently a lot of people took the ex-MTV star up on his offer to host a party at his Castle Bam residence outside of town. See pics of the party here.
Happy hour with Eric Lindros. The Flyers’ hall-of-fame center will be at Barnaby’s on Thursday at what is being billed as a “meet and greet” with fans. Join the Philly legend from 5 to 7 p.m. at the bar.
The warnings. Watch your SSNs, people. There’s another reported social security phone scam, this time from a California telephone number. Remember reputable companies won’t ask for your full social security number over the phone. Practice fire and gas safety. West Chester Borough Fire Department responded to three calls Monday evening. Fortunately all without major incident.
The freakin’ weekend.

The West Chester Business Improvement District (BID) has announced the winners of its holiday window decorating contest. If you didn’t know, the BID was holding a competition for the best holiday window displays. The competition was judged by the West Chester Public Arts Commission and more than 75 retailers participated. Malena’s topped the list with a gorgeous winter-white display followed by Bar Avalon and Saloon 51. Check them all out and knock out the remainder of your shopping list this weekend. Most stores have extended hours for the holidays. Plus, Santa Claus is coming to town (for just about the last time before his big night).
