According to recent news reports there is more development slated for West Chester and the nearby area:

Gay & Church: Developer Eli Kahn is back with two proposals for the buildings on the corner of Gay and Church streets.  The first a 60′ 4-story “plaza plan” was originally proposed (to positive reception) nearly 4 years ago. The building would combine retail and office space and feature a privately owned plaza in front of the building. The second option features 2.5-stories of office and retail space with room above for a rooftop restaurant. You can see renderings of both plans plus get a history of the proposed site here and get a recap of  the initial response from the Borough council here.

Matlack St.: Westrum Development Company has presented a proposal that seeks to turn the site of the Agway hardware store at 956 S. Matlack St into 189 luxury apartments. The site is currently zoned light industrial so a change in zoning would be required for the project to proceed. Find all the details here.

N. High St.: The Chester County Historical Society will soon be undergoing some restoration work thanks to $80,000 in state funding. The money will be used to upgrade the roof and preserve two existing chimneys. Get all the details here.

S. Church St.: Development is also planned for 400 South Church Street where the addition of five carriage houses is being proposed for the rear of the property. Final land development plans were submitted to the West Chester Planning Commission on June 6 – you can view copies of the plans here.

Finally, the West Chester Police Department is also growing. Four new officers were sworn in at Wednesday’s Borough Council Meeting. Meet the latest additions here.

What do you think of all this development? Good for the Borough or bad?
