It’s Residential Parking Permit time - or Shark Week as it’s known in the Borough of West Chester. I talk with the new parking director on a series of program changes she has in mind - some are bound to be hugely popular, others not so much so.
Since ending its camp program in 2019, West Chester has struggled to figure out how to offer residents a summer option for its kids. This year, low attendance forced operators to cancel the program and parents scrambling for last-minute childcare coverage.
For the last three years, West Chester has in some way honored Juneteenth but while the passion was there the presentation was at times disjointed. So last year the parties all came together and agreed on a cohesive program around the theme, “Journeying Toward Freedom.”
Last weekend the West Chester Green Team held their second annual West Chester Porchfest shutting down streets and lining up roughly 70 bands on 50 porches throughout the Borough’s southwest quadrant. The day started with a slight drizzle but it was not enough to deter record numbers from coming out to listen to the music.
Summer in West Chester is about outdoor concerts, movies by moonlight, and day-long music festivals. It’s about splash parks, face paint, and bumping into neighbors on Gay Street. So, who's ready for summer?
