11 institutions were out of compliance with the Chester County Health Department in May, including everyone’s favorite Biscuit Lady. That said, overall violations were light this month, and the number of 100 percenters (no violations on their annual inspection) is ticking up.
Thornbury Farm, 1256 Thornbury Rd., out, 3 violations, including ready-to-eat cheese without a date marking, two walk-in refrigerators with deteriorating shelves, and cartons of raw eggs without proper labels. Labels must state: farm name, address, lay date, and safe handling instructions.
Carly Foglia Nutrition @ the Artisan Exchange, 208 Carter Dr., out, 6 violations, including ground turkey thawing in standing water, ready-to-eat foods held for more than 24 hours without a date indicating when they were made, and open salad dressing stored unrefrigerated despite a label directing to “refrigerate after opening.” Also, walls, floors, and sinks in need of cleaning.
Popeye’s, 829 Paoli Pike, out, 2 violations including a fryer that is out of order and floors that need to be cleaned.
Papa John’s Pizza, 510 E. Gay St., out, 3 violations including several sinks in need of cleaning and holes in the exterior door leading to the alleyway. If we learned anything from Taqueria Los Poblanos, take care of this right away!
Yori’s Church Street Bakery, 15 N. Church St., out, 4 violations including grab-and-go items not labeled with the food name, the front exterior door left propped open, and ceiling tiles with peeling paint above the dishwasher.
La Baguette Magique, 202 W. Market St., out, 6 violations including employees changing tasks without washing hands in between, six gallons of milk found 1 day past their sell-by dates, and food stored too close to the mop sink, risking contamination.
The Biscuit Lady, 39 W. Gay St., out, 14 violations, including milk with a sell-by date five days past due, raw eggs stored above ready-to-eat foods such as milk and OJ, and honey butter and icing left out overnight at room temperature. Both contained butter and were discarded during the morning inspection. Also, no soap at the upstairs sink, no paper towels at any of the sinks, and inadequate lighting in the basement.
