Monkey Fish Toys has gotten a reprieve.
“Hi, everyone it’s KC and Mike from Monkey Fish Toys and we have exciting news to share with you,” co-owner KC Olafsson said in a new Facebook video shared this week.
The exciting news? The eight-year-old toy store will not be closing at the end of the month as originally announced. While not all details are final yet, the retiring owners were confident enough to make an official announcement.
“We are now able to say with some really good confidence Monkey Fish will carry on. It’s been a rollercoaster… but it’s ending in a really good place,” said Mike Olafsson.
The couple announced in a Dec. 30, video update they would be closing the store at the end of January. They had faced a series of health issues over the previous year and after an early purchase offer fell through they felt they had no choice but to close.

“We made the announcement. It was heart-wrenching,” said KC. “The outpouring of well wishes, it truly was overwhelming. It was very humbling. We just didn’t think we made that much of a difference.”
Monkey Fish 2.0
Now it seems a new buyer has stepped up giving the beloved Bradford Plaza toy store a second chance – Monkey Fish 2.0, they are calling it. Current and future owners have agreed to all major purchase points and extended the store’s lease leaving only the name announcement, which they promised in the next update.
“We still have some i’s to dot and t’s to cross but we are confident enough to… say we are going to be here and resume normal operations in the store,” Mike said. New merchandise has been ordered and employees are proceeding with business as usual.
“We look forward to having those shelves stocked again,” said KC.
